There have been recent reports of credit and debit card skimmers in Florida, including Jacksonville, Gainesville, and Palm Coast. A skimmer is a device that captures the magnetic strip data from the cards. The information retrieved is then used to produce “white cards,” which are used by fraudsters to make purchases and/or withdraw money from member accounts at ATMs.

Here are some tips for avoiding fraud:

  • Pay cash or use your credit or debit card inside the gas station, instead of swiping your card
  • Use the gas pumps closest to the cashier
  • Look for signs the pump cabinet has been pried open, or tampered with in some way
  • Check your credit card statements regularly for signs of theft or fraud. In the event there is any suspicious activity, please call the credit union at (904) 723-6300.
